DEEP: DISCOVERY ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
2011-12 CLASS SCHEDULE

Since 1994, the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service has hosted field trips throughout the school year for students at local elementary and intermediate schools.   Formally known as Discovery Environmental Education Program (DEEP), the program presently serves:

• Approximately 2600 fourth- and seventh-grade students from the Brazosport Independent School District (BISD).   BISD operates K-12 schools for the cities of Clute, Freeport, Jones Creek, Lake Jackson, Oyster Creek, Quintana, Richwood, and Surfside Beach, Texas.


• Approximately 150 fourth-grade students from the Angleton Independent School District.   AISD operates K-12 schools in the city of Angleton, Texas.


• Other schools on request.

Bryan Adams

Bryan Adams, USFWS Education Specialist, administers the program.   The program is based at the Discovery Center, located on the refuge.   The Center contains a classroom, offices, and an exhibit area.

School Refuge trips for 2011-12 are listed below.   Unless otherwise noted, all trips will be at Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge.   These trips begin at 9:00 and end at 1:30, with a half-hour lunch.   Docents usually arrive by 8:30 to allow time to prepare their stations.   This schedule may need to be modified as additional schools schedule trips or weather conditions force postponement of a trip.   If a trip is canceled, I will send out a notice by 6:30 AM on the day of the trip - but I will try to let you know the day before.   Check your email or this website.
